A Nice Wine With A Guest

I just have to show you my guest from last evening! He appeared on the door ledge just after dark and stayed there for over an hour! I turned all the lights on in the room hoping to attract a few stray bugs for him, but not sure there were any takers. So he left...hopefully not too hungry!

The other night when I had my cold and everything was tasting pretty much like cardboard, I did have a wine I told you that I was sipping, but the taste buds were not quite up to speed. Luckily they are slowly coming back and last night I popped open the other bottle of Chateau Chauvet that I had chilled, but had not reviewed a few nights ago. I picked up this bottle of 2005 Chateau Chauvet at the grocery store for $6.99! Sometimes I am skeptical when a wine is priced that low, but was pleasantly surprised with this one. I enjoy French White Bordeaux wines very much, but they have become so pricey lately that I only purchase them for special occasions. The winery is located in the tiny mid-West town of St. Hilaire due Bois which is situated between the Dordogne and Loire rivers and not too far from the coast. Chateau Chauvet is a nice, not heavy, but citrus flavored wine with a good balance in the acidity department. I also enjoyed a crisp note towards the end! Not a long finish, but enough flavor that sent my glass back for seconds! For dinner I had a baked sweet potato, sauteed broccoli and the most handsome salmon on the grill! The wine was excellent with dinner!

No better way to start the end of your day but with a glass of wine and a guest!
Cheers!

Prince Charming was at your window~I hope the heck you let him in for a glass of vino! Don't be fooled by his looks or inexpensive wines....That is not too uncommon in FR to pay for a nice table wine and a delicious one, at that! Cheers!

Awww, he's so cute!
Nice wine...I have to figur out where that is...shouldn't be too far from us if it's near the coast. Is it a Loire?

Deb, Mr. Frog is so darn cute...and even cuter, the fact that you tried to lure some dinner to him by leaving on the lights! :-) Your salmon looks grilled to perfection...my absolute favorite thing to grill.

Deb...I bought the wine from Wild Horse Winery that we were talking about...and I am sad to say that either my palate is WAY too unsophisticated to appreciate it, or its just not too good. The former is probably the case. I grilled pork chops tonight and was keeping my fingers crossed about the wine. I can't complain too much though, because what could I possibly have expected by choosing a wine merely for the pretty label! The shop I went to only had Chardonnay. I think I will move only to other wine "genres" for my next choice. :-) I'll blog about it and include a few photos tomorrow...it IS a very fetching label...and then I'm gonna cook with the rest of the bottle!

Hey Wendy, Jann, Holler, is he not the cutest little fellow! I must not have been a good hostess as he has not been back yet.

Katie, I do not think the wine was a true Loire. Actually it was hard to find any information except the location. I am not sure where you are located either. I have friends that live in Saumur, are you near there?

Hey Belinda, sorry you had a bad experience with your wine ! A chardonnay is not a wine that you want to start out with if you are new to wines. It is too bold for your palate. But do cook with it! I would suggest you start with a Sauvignon Blanc or a Pinot Grigio. Or if you like fruity (meaning sweet) start with a Riesling from Washington State. I will put a list of ones that I would recommend for you to start with and I will leave you a comment as to who they are. I should be able to get you a list today or tomorrow. Hang in there!

Wine for $6.99. Unheard of here!!! My friend from Arizona was apalled at our wine prices. It doesn't stop me from having a sip even if the cheapest wine I can find is $12.I wonder if froggy was taking in the smells of the wonderful salmon on the BBQ. Not much of a conversationalist though.
